La razón para la junta de todos estos artistas para la creación de We Are the World fué reunir fondos para apasiguar el hambre en Etiopía, afectada por inundaciones.
El tema compuesto por Lionel Ritchie y Michael Jackson, recaudó nada mas y nada menos que 63 millones de dolares.

De todos estos ochenteros, podemos notar la ausencia de Madonna, que faltó a esta cita por el bien de el planeta debido a una gira en la que se encontraba, también es notoria la falta de Prince, de quien según cuentan por ahi, no pudo asistir por tener que ir a pagar una fianza impuesta a sus guardaespaldas, apresados la noche anterior.
La grabación, se realizo la noche de los American Music Awards, asegurandose de esa manera la asistencia de la mayor cantidad de artistas posible… muy buena técnica. A los artistas, se les pedia amablemente “dejaran sus egos en la puerta”, cosa que lograron de manera impresionante (Aun hoy en día, impacta ver la unidad que proyectan estos cantantes en el video We Are The World)
La canción, además de los 63 humildes millones de dolares que ganó, tambien gano los siguientes Grammys: Canción del Año, Disco del Año, Mejor interpretacion pop a cargo de un duo o grupo.
Ojala, en nuestros días, nuevamente nos unieramos y cantaramos para salvar nuestro planeta, apoyemos al Movimiento Planeta Verde, unamonos, quien sabe que será de nuestros descendientes si no hacemos algo al respecto.
